Radiology

The Department of Radiology at the University Medical Center Freiburg, within the scope of the service package uniklinik plus, offers a broad spectrum of medically expedient examinations in addition to those covered by the health insurance plans.

All examinations are conducted using the newest generation of modern digital computer tomography scanners (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines.

VISUALISING RECOGNISING TREATING HEALING

Diagnostic Imaging

Computer tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), provide high quality images of the body, offering the possibility for early diagnosis and prevention of diseases.

We have established high quality controls to limit the radiation exposure to the lowest possible levels. In close cooperation with specialists from other departments, we are able to offer you radiographic diagnostic and treatment services.

MRI of the Breast

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women in Germany. Approximately 40,000 women are diagnosed with this disease annually. The risk of breast cancer rises significantly after the age of 40 and early diagnosis confers the best chance for cure. In addition to mammography and the ultrasound examination, the MRI of the female breast (MRIB) represents a proven and accurate imaging study to detect breast cancer. Moreover, it does not require the use of X-rays.

Full-Body MRI

The full-body MRI scan examines the complete body from head to toe and may be used to identify abnormalities of the:

  • lymphatic system
  • musculoskeletal system (in particular inflammatory changes)
  • liver
  • urogenital tract
  • kidneys

The procedure is currently not suited to simultaneously examine the gastrointestinal tract. For this purpose, special examination procedures are necessary.

Visualisation of the Coronary Vessels

Do you smoke?
Are you overweight or have an elevated blood lipid profile?
Do you feel apprehensive about your heart or suffer from cardiophobia?
Have you had a heart attack, a stent placed or received bypass surgery?
What can you do?

If you have risk factors for athroscelorotic disease, you can register for a preventive checkup of the coronary vessels or the arterial system in the Radiology Department.

Talk to your physician or make an appointment with a cardiologist at the University Medical Center Freiburg.

Colon Cancer Screening

Cancer of the colon is curable, if it is diagnosed early before it has had a chance to spread.

  • The new multi-slice CT examination detects of abnormalities in the colon.

Radiofrequency Ablation

The treatment of tumours utilising minimally invasive therapy with radiofrequency ablation:

  • Liver tumours
  • Lung tumours
  • Kidney tumours

Costs

The fees are in accordance with the standard rates of the University Medical Center Freiburg, which are based on the German scale of fees for doctors (GOÄ). Prior to any treatment, there will be a consultation with the doctor after which, the patient will make an agreement with the Medical Center regarding the scope of the treatment.
